Unify Mobile was a Dutch based company created by telecom veterans from the Netherlands (now part of Roamware) planning to become a leading pan-European MVNO specializing in roaming services for Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Germany and Holland and later on other continents.
Unify Mobile aimed mainly to provision mobile communications services for travelers, business people and companies with an international profile.
Business challenge
Unify mobile wanted to implement a new generation pre-paid solution in a very short timeframe, as their pan European MVNO IN platform of choice. Unify Mobile needed a solution that would allow them to bring innovative services on the market fast, enabling its subscribers to enjoy roaming in several European countries at voice/SMS/data rates similar to the home country rates. Such a solution required very flexible rating and charging capabilities and custom made features dedicated and developed especially for Unify Mobile installation.
R Systems contribution and solution
After the vendor selection and evaluation process, Unify Mobile chose the R Systems IN prepaid platform due to its advanced features, its flexibility and scalability that would enable them to easily deploy new features developed directly by Unify Mobile or third party software vendors.
Due to its commitment to comply with the very tight deadline of the project, R Systems delivered the IN prepaid solution in less than 6 months, from requirements gathering, specification, implementation, testing, and integration through to user acceptance tests. At the end of the project there were no non conformities, all minor issues being fixed immediately during acceptance tests.
R Systems developed a number of advanced features including: real-time prepaid control for voice calls (incl. national and international roaming); configurable rating engine; subscription and account management; real-time control of voice, SMS and data services; real-time rating and charging with support for free counters, bundles and periodic charges; support for multi-MSISDN and multi-IMSI subscriptions; multi-currency and multi-language; MVNO segmentation; flexible voucher management server with support for scratch cards and electronic vouchers; customer self care solution based on USSD codes; open rating and charging interfaces based on 3GPP recommendation; future-proof and open platform based on JAIN/SLEE architecture and OpenCloud Rhino telecommunication application server.
The service logic was built on top of JAIN/SLEE, allowing fast implementation of new services, easy integration with multiple network resources and protocols, scalability and availability through clustering architecture. The solution was fully compliant with the 3GPP standards. The project involved several high risk factors like short timeline, new technology (OpenCloudRhino) and an ambitious project scope.
